BSF attacked with petrol bombs in Murshidabad; Forces escalated

The situation in Murshidabad district of West Bengal remains volatile after violent clashes erupted in the Shamsherganj area. As tensions continue to simmer, nine companies of the Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed to stabilize the region and prevent further unrest.

BSF South Bengal Frontier DIG and PRO Niloptal Kumar Pandey described the attack as a direct assault on law enforcement. “As soon as our soldiers reached the area, anarchic elements started a war against us,” he stated. He detailed that miscreants hurled petrol bombs, bricks, and stones at BSF patrolling teams, attempting to obstruct their movement and provoke chaos.

While no soldier sustained life-threatening injuries, several jawans were wounded in the intense stone pelting. The BSF confirmed that the attackers were individuals known for disrupting law and order and challenging state authority repeatedly in the past.

To manage the escalating tension, BSF has strengthened its presence not only in Shamsherganj but also in nearby areas like Susutia and the surrounding police station zones. The aim is to restore public confidence and ensure peace, with flag marches being conducted continuously to reassure the frightened locals.

The BSF admitted that fear has gripped local communities due to the sudden violence. “We are conducting regular flag marches to dispel panic and restore confidence among residents,” a spokesperson said. Coordination with the state police remains key in the ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.

Initially, just two BSF companies were sent based on the administration’s request. However, as the situation rapidly deteriorated, additional reinforcements were deployed to cover all potential hotspots. The BSF is now present in every sensitive zone to prevent any repeat of the violence witnessed earlier.
